Tire-killers

Tire killers (tyre killers) are spike barriers that puncture the tyres of a vehicle entering without permission or driving the wrong way. Unlike rising wedge barriers, they have no tall moving part and do not block the view: spike height is 80 or 170 mm.

How to choose tire killers

• Drive. Automatic models are hydraulic and remotely operated. Mechanical units need no power: an authorised person raises and lowers the spikes with a lever.
• Direction. Bi-directional spikes are only on the automatic RB370 series; the RB373 and mechanical models are single-direction.
• Driveway width. 2000–4000 mm for automatic, 2000 or 3000 mm for mechanical models.
• Installation. Surface mounted with ramps or shallow mounted in the road surface.
• Climate. Automatic models operate at −40…+60 °C; below −10 °C a heating device is required, above +40 °C a cooler.

All models are rated for a 15 t axle load and built from C22 steel with powder coating. Automatic units have a built-in hydraulic unit, so the PLC can be placed up to 100 m from the blocking segment. Lever-operated units have three modes, including blocking in both directions, but their spikes are single-direction. The TiSO range also includes a spring-loaded version: spikes always raised, one direction free to pass.

Where they are used

They are installed at entrances and exits of secured sites, on service driveways, in car parks, at fuel stations, warehouse yards and customs areas.
