A turnstile gate is a motorized leaf that, upon a signal from the access control system, rotates 90 degrees, allows a person to pass, and returns to its original position after a few seconds. The time spent in the open state is programmable.

The gate solves two tasks that a tripod or full-height turnstile cannot handle: a wide passage for visitors with strollers, luggage, or in wheelchairs, and opening an evacuation route in an emergency. Therefore, the gate is almost always installed in line with other turnstiles: it becomes the accessible and emergency passage for the entire line.

What to look for when choosing:

passage width — for non-standard openings, there are models with a telescopic leaf that adjusts to the existing gap
leaf material — steel tube, solid glass, or a glass leaf in a thin profile; glass looks better in a lobby, metal is more durable in technical areas
series — the gate is usually chosen from the same series as the turnstiles in the line, so that the housings match in design and height
operating mode — normally closed for a controlled area or normally open for a passage that is blocked only when necessary
